The Beginnings
One Of A Kind was hatched in the office of president of broadcasting of a local NBC affiliate in Wichita, Kansas, in June 1980. At that time Dr. Hugh Riordan was visiting with him and suggested that the station pre-empt one of the Saturday morning children's shows with a program about health tat was produced by people of the Olive W. Garvey Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning, a nonprofit organization committee to the promotion of "wellness". Much to Dr. Riordan's surprise, the go-ahead was given, and a search for talent and supportive staff and funding was begun.

Significance of the Rainbow
To the Rainbow Lady, the rainbow represents a way of viewing life. The storm and the rainbow, like pain and happiness in life, go hand in hand. What seems painful or "bad" can become a positive learning experience. The rainbow is a symbol of this integration of experience into a healthy attitude of life.
Another aspect of this attitude is the realization that we are all unique and we need to appreciate this uniqueness. We are one-of-a-kind, bringing to life our individual tales and interests. The One Of A Kind series will demonstrate an attitude - based on sound positive thinking - that can bring a rainbow quality to life.
