July 2006
A message from Ron Hunninghake, M.D., Chief Medical Officer - OWGCHA
On the anniversary of our 31st year, I am happy to report that The Center family has pulled
together as a true team, with everyone doing their part to continue the creation of the
"epidemic of health" so cherished by Dr. Hugh and Olive W. Garvey.
We are encouraged by your continuing support and feel confident that we will energetically contribute to the community and the world through our research, patient care, and innovative approaches.
The Olive W. Garvey Center for Healing Arts continues to actively serve thousands of patient/co-learners. The year 2006 is shaping up to be one of our best years, with the number of new patients enrolled now exceeding last year’s count. Our popular Lunch and Lecture series recently drew a record attendance on June 8, 2006.
The Bio-Center Laboratory, under the direction of Dr. James Jackson and the supervision of Jerry Tiemeyer, was recently given a perfect score by the State of Kansas CLIA inspector, meaning zero deficiencies - an unparalleled accomplishment.
We have retained all of our senior staff. Handpicked over many decades by Dr. Riordan, this leadership core is the living legacy of Olive's vision. In addition, 54% of our full time staff has served 10 or more years. Now that's dedication to a cause!
Our research division remains strong under Dr. Neil Riordan's guidance. Several research articles have been published recently in medical journals, authored and coauthored by researchers from The Center's research division, Bio-Communications Research Institute.

We look forward to a bumper crop this year from the organic garden. This will provide the Taste of Health Restaurant its mainstay of tasty whole foods...now complemented by a newly remodeled and very attractive dining area. Also, a newly surfaced and freshly lined asphalt parking lot now greets Center patrons.
We continue to hold to our philosophy of strong fiscal responsibility. Our overhead remains
at 15%.
None of this would be possible without the care of our Chief Operating Officer, Laura Benson, who will celebrate 30 years of successfully overseeing the many day-to-day Center activities.
The Center has recently been described as "the premier orthomolecular center in the world." We are striving to live up to this high praise...though we would not be where we are without the grass roots support of Rope Catchers like you who understand The Center's role in the revision and healing of the health care system in this country.
This Rope is dedicated to each of you...to inform you of our ongoing commitment to excellence and to thank you for your hopeful thoughts, kind words, and generous gifts. We are truly grateful to you!
"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others." Cicero
The Center was recently profiled on the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer - Sunday Edition, June 18, 2006, with an article entitled, "Vitamin C revisited as cancer cure" which focused on Intravenous Vitamin C Therapy, a therapy implemented by Dr. Hugh D. Riordan, one of the pioneers of IV Vitamin C, at The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning International. The Center's long-standing work in IVC therapy was described in the article, including one of the patients from The Center being quoted. The Center has received an over-whelming number of phone calls from people living in Florida, Virginia, Connecticut, New Mexico, Alaska, and Texas as a result of the Philadelphia Inquirer article being published in their area newspapers.
